GENOVEVA DE LA PEÑA

I earned my bachelor's and master's degrees in Philosophy from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), specializing in Aesthetics, Philosophy of Culture, and Philosophy of Religion. I also studied metalwork at the Mass Art Metal Workshop in Boston, Mass. While I was finishing my studies, I worked at the National Museum of Anthropology and the INAH's Coordination of Museums and Exhibitions. When I arrived in Merida, I was a professor in Visual Arts at the University of the Arts of Yucatán and in the Bachelor's program in Cultural Development and Management at UNAM. Since 2014, I have been working with the native bees in workshops (breeding, repopulating hives, and building meliponaries) in Yucatán and Quintana Roo. I founded Casa de Abejas, to promote biodiversity, beekeeping, and honey consumption. With a great team of experts, we created KAAB CUATRO Museo Vivo and a kit for planting gardens and building meliponaries. You can visit them in Maní and Chablekal, Yucatán. I worked at the Federal Ministry of Culture in Mexico City, as Director of the Corn Museum and the Food Culture Center. I was an advisor on sustainable practices, supporting Mexican producers and managing projects at Red Contramar in Mexico City. I live and work in Yucatán.
